Coolest Monkey Cake

I made this Homemade Monkey Cake for my great nephew’s first birthday party. The party was a jungle animal theme. I did not have the shaped tins I required so in turn I lined a Pyrex dish and a smaller bowl with baking paper and filled both bowls with butter cake packet mix (required 2 packets). I also tipped some of the mixture into a lined muffin tin (at least two) for the ears. I then cut some of the cake off the muffin tin cakes to create the ear (keeping it in proportion with the monkey’s head).

I secured the smaller bowl cake to the top of the larger bowl cake with a wooden skewer. I attached the ears also with wooden skewers. I iced the cake in butter icing (adding Coco to make the chocolate icing and food colouring to make the yellow). I used M&M’s for the eyes and tongue. I used black liquorice for his mouth and his nose. I piped hair on the top and piped around the base of the head. I decorated the board with jungle animal icing shapes and covered the round board with yellow tissue paper to match the yellow and covered the paper in cellophane. I was happy with the end result.
