Coolest Rapunzal Cake

I made this Rapunzel Tangled birthday cake for my daughter’s 5th birthday. She wanted all kinds of figures on the cake, so I knew I had my work cut out for me! Note, I used all butter cream on this cake, no fondant!

I baked a 2 layer cake using a 12inch round pan. I used 3 boxes of store bought cake mix. I first dirty iced the cake with butter cream icing. The border on the round cake was a premade Duff’s cake tattoo border I bought from Michael’s!

I used donuts to make the tower, over a plastic dowel rod that I purchased at a cake show (but it could be purchased at Michael’s as well) to provide stability. I left a little of the rod exposed at the top so I could attach the ice cream cone as the tower roof. I covered the donuts with butter cream to give the tower a more complete look. And then dusted it with a pink butter cream and dusting color.

I made grass on the cake with a Wilton tip. I trimmed the edge of the tower as well as on the cake with pink and multi-colored sugar flowers (purchased at a cake show and some at Michael’s). I piped icing on the tower to create the vines and added flowers there as well.

I purchased a multi-pack of gel coloring to color the butter cream icing purple, green, and pink. I also used dusting to color more pink and purple around the cake. All of the figurines were a play set bought from the Disney store website. I did have to secure Rapunzel and some of the other figures by working them into the frosting.

I had a lot of fun creating this cake! Thanks to everyone else for the ideas which I found here and other websites!
