Coolest Spongebob SquarePants Birthday Cake

My Spongebob SquarePants birthday cake was choc mud with choc frosting for a friend’s little boy’s 8th birthday. It was a triple mix to achieve the correct height and dimensions. I used a roasting tray to bake it.

The cake was laid on a full size baking tray lined with foil so I could start decorating. I pre colored all of my icing then rolled out the yellow base. Once this was on the cake I indented the cake using a clean golf ball and marble to achieve the sponge effect. I pre made all of the smaller pieces by hand using a kitchen knife and a ruler and laid them out on baking paper to dry. I rolled out the brown pants and white belt and placed them on the cake then added the detail pieces. The last bit to go on was the nose which was secured with a skewer.

It took me around 5 hours just to decorate the cake. My friend’s son was ecstatic. The cake was viewed at the local towns Cricket Club Presentation nite (where I needed to store it in their big fridge as it didn’t fit in mine!) and I have since been nominated the cake cook for all birthdays and events since! Not bad for my first effort ever using hard icing and making an actual character cake I thought.
