Coolest Superbowl XLVII Cake

A friend of my husband’s was going to a Superbowl party last weekend and asked me about a week ahead of time if I could make them a Superbowl cake.  So, I went shopping for supplies!

This one was fun and so challenging.  I just baked 2 cakes (9′ and 6″).  I covered the top in royal blue fondant and the bottom in green to make the field. I cut the lines and numbers for the field and stuck them on using water on my fingertip. Then I put the top cake on and made the logos. That was the hardest part. Why couldn’t teams with easier logos have made it?

The 49ers was a bit easier obviously.  The Ravens was HARD.  I basically just printed off a picture of their logo to be about the size that I wanted it on the cake. Then I put it on top of the fondant and traced the shapes on each color of fondant I was using with a pointy, but not too sharp object.  Then I used a utility knife to cut them all out and had to somehow line them all up again to assemble all of the layers.  It didn’t turn out perfectly and the beak cracked a little because I’d let it get too dry, but it wasn’t bad for my first try at an NFL logo!

The football on the top was actually made out of Rice Krispie squares and covered with icing, then fondant.

Colors used were: Field, leaf green.  Top cake, royal blue with a touch of black in it.  49ers logo, black, burgundy  white and buttercup yellow.  Ravens, Red-red (no taste), buttercup yellow, violet with some black in it and white.  Football, I had actually run out of brown coloring without realizing it, so I had some orange fondant on hand and mixed in burgundy and black to make it brown!
