Coolest Winnie Baby Shower Cake

The top of the Homemade Winnie Baby Shower Cake is a red velvet cake but dyed green for the hundred acre wood theme and it is topped with a cream cheese frosting. The bottom cake is a marbled chocolate and vanilla swirl cake (butter cake recipe)filled with a chocolate ganache and topped with a vanilla buttercream. These cakes are dense and sturdy enough to hold up stacking or covering with fondant.

I made my own marshmallow fondant. The marshmallow fondant tastes way better than store bought kind but it does not smooth out as nicely in my opinion. But you can store it in the fridge overnight to set up nicely and then roll with crisco and then finish rolling it out with powdered sugar to help get out the little air bubble spots. If you start rolling it with powdered sugar it will get dried out fast. I made the gumpaste characters a week ahead of time because it takes days to dry when you make thick characters like these. I do each section of the characters at a time then use a mixture of gum paste and water and meringue powder to glue them together but remember to bend the pieces where you want them or you will make your gumpaste crack. I used the smallest circle cutter for the bees and I use a frosting tip for cutting out the eyes and the smallest heart cutter for the wings. The blue water on the top is made with royal frosting.
