This cake was made by my sister and I for a friends 40th Birthday on the weekend.
It was our first attempt at making a sculptured cak and may be our last! It took 13 hours to decorate and were up until the early hours of the morning getting it finished but were really happy with the result. We got the original idea from some cakes featured on this site and the detail was replicated from the Birthday boys actual motor bike.
The cake is chocolate mud cake, 3 layers joined with chocolate ganache(Planet Cakes recipies) and chocolate butter cream. Dimentions of the cakes we started with were 21cm x 31cm. It stacked to about 13cm tall prior to icing. It was really a matter of carving the cake to an aproximate gas tank shape and filling gaps with buttercream and ready to roll fondant and just building up the shape until we had something we were happy with.
