Homemade Minnie Mouse Cake

This cake was made for my nieces 4th birthday! It is a 2 tier cake! The bottom tier is 2-10″ rounds with 2-8″ rounds on top of them! They are both covered with homemade buttercream icing, one iced pink and the other left white! A couple of days before I cut out fondant/gumpaste circles from my wilton gumpaste student tool kit, 2 different sizes one for the head and the other for the ears! They were sit out to dry! I also cut out her name fromt the same fondant gumpaste blend. The bow was also a gumpaste/fondant blend that was cut out and molded a few days prior to, to allow time to dry! The 2nd tier (8″) was placed on a board cut to size for a more secure build, as was Minnie’s head!

For Minnies head, I baked 1/2 of the Wiltons sports ball and covered it with fondant. The ears were 4 cardboard circles (2 for each ear, with skewers glued to them to secure them inside the head) that I covered with the gumpaste/fondant blend and allowed to sit out and dry!

When it was time to assemble I thin iced(crumble coated) all 3 cakes them final iced in the color of choice! The Minnie head, ears and name were attached to the cakes with gum paste and the bows were pink buttercream stars, tip #14. The #4 & dots on top tier was piped with tip #12. Shell border along bottom with tip #21. The bow was attached with 2 skewers and stuffed with paper towel to hold shape!

The cake was a huge success~!
