Homemade 16th Butterfly Birthday Cake

I made this butterfly birthday cake for my friend’s daughter’s  birthday. I started to make butterflies three day early. Solid ones are fondant, rolled fondant out and used cookie cutter, laid them out on very lightly greased cookie sheet.  The lacing looking one are royal icing. I used basic recipe, 3 egg whites 1 tbl spoon of lemon juice and 2tbs powder sugar. You don’t want to add sugar all at once, might not need it all. Combine and mix.

Have wax paper cut to size and print out of basic butterfly shape. Lightly grease wax paper top, use dab of royal icing to keep wax paper on print out. Then line basic butterfly shape and then pipe swirls but make sure everything is connected. Place on flower. Dry over night. These were 3 layers. So it took 8 cake boxes. I use Betty Crocker bake as box reads, adjust time for a big as pan. I used cream cheese frosting (which I wasn’t able to get smooth:  two packs of cream cheese creamed, 4lbs powder sugar (may not need all) flavoring as you  like to thickness you like. I iced each layer separate then stacked together. You should Google how to stack big cakes.

Then placed butter randomly down the one side.  I used floral wire and “glued” butterflies on them with chocolate. Placed on cake. Bought feathers from floral department too. Bought numbers from house address section in hardware store. I took top layer off to transport separably.  I found rime stone border in cake section at Hobby Lobby. Everyone loved it.
