This cake was made for my 8 year old son Jonathan. He happens to be a huge fan of the hit show The Walking Dead. My biggest inspiration on making this cake was making my son happy. I planned for weeks on ideas for his cake. After looking up so many different ideas I just couldn’t find something that caught my eye. So after further research on the show it hit me. I knew exactly what I wanted, I knew exactly what would put a smile on my sons face. Keeping it a surprise from my son was the hardest part. I made sure he slept at his grandmothers the night before so his cake would be a surprise for him at his party. The cake is layered with my famous yellow cake, chocolate moose, and fresh strawberry filling. The cake was dirty iced in our Italian butter-cream and covered in my homemade marshmallow fondant. The bottom layer is the famous prison from the show. Red brick fondant with a nice touch of airbrush. The top tier is the doors you always see, trapping the dead behind the doors. The detail to the top tier has also been airbrushed. The sides are also airbrushed to look like the chain link fence you see the dead hiding behind. We also made creepy hands that make it look like there’s real zombies popping threw the cake. And for some extra touches we added “The Walking Dead” Chocolates and non edible walking dead characters. It was one of my favorite cakes I’ve made. I couldn’t wait to see the excitement on my sons face!! Needless to say the cake was a huge hit. Everyone loved the flavor combination. After posting the cake I’ve already made a second on a smaller scale and I also have 3 more future orders.
