My nephew was turning 2 and he loves Elmo. His mother asked me to make Elmo Birthday Cupcakes to go along with the theme for his party. I made regular yellow cake for the cupcakes, I frosted them in butter cream then to get the natural red color of Elmo. I rolled them in red sugar.
I used DOTS candy for the nose, only the orange ones. I used Marshmallows for the eyes (these are the large ones, I cut them in half). I used chocolate melts for the eyes and mouth,after I melted the candy I drew a mouth for all the cupcakes and a set of eyes put, them in the freezer to get hard and applied it with a little frosting I think they turned out great and they were a big hit at the party.
This was very time consuming though but worth it in the end. He was very happy with them.
