Homemade Princess Belle Cake

Homemade Princess Belle Cake

I made this pretty Princess Belle Cake for Jessica Louise, my granddaughter, for her forth birthday. She loves Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I had lots of fun making this cake. I used a vanilla sponge mix and an 8 inch diameter Pyrex basin (8 eggs sponge mix)), so Belle's dress was already taking shape.

I also used an 8inch sandwich tin (2 eggs sponge mix) to elevate her a bit more. Using a toy shop bought Belle doll I separated her from her legs and part of her dress and wrapped clingfilm around her torso (I will reassemble the dress and legs later to give to Jessica as a souvenir).

The cake was butter iced in the middle and all around the sides. I cut out the petticoat parts in white fondant with a lace cutter and stuck on two layers, the first was placed around the bottom and the second in between to create the volume of petticoats. The dress was food dyed yellow and rolled and cut out of a round pan lid with my ribbon cutter to create a frilled dress edge. I then used a flower embosser on the rolled out yellow fondant. I then placed the fondant over the main cake and pressed into place gently so as not to smooth out the flower prints.

I then gently shaped the pleats in the dress to create movement and volume. I used the handle end of a wooden spoon to gently lift the pleats into place. I pushed Belle's torso into a carefully spooned out hollow. I used the same white fondant lace cutter to make a little frill around Belles waist to cover the join between her waist and the cake. I then dyed some fondant pink and using the palm of my hand (this is quicker and more effective that painting them individually) smoothed some pearl lustre over the rolled out pink fondant. I then cut the stars out and food glued them onto Belle's dress.

Fairly easy to do and with fabulous results.
