Coolest Princess Castle Birthday Cake

I got a lot of ideas from this website so thank you so much to everyone that puts their pictures of a princess castle birthday cake here!

This cake was only my second one (I’ll post my son’s later). I used two boxes of mixes to make 4 square cakes. I froze them for about 8 hours before cutting or frosting them. The bottom of the castle consists of 2 squares stacked on top with frosting between. For the circles, I used one of the kids plastic bowls as my template and just used a sharp knife to cut it out.I stacked two circles on top with icing in between.

I used buttercream for the whole cake as I hate fondant. I did a crumb coat first, let it sit for an hour and then did the final coat. The towers are toilet paper rolls with a cake cone inserted in the top. The glitter cones were sugar cones, coated with icing and then rolled in colored sugar from Wilton. I used 3″ foam sheets to cut the battlements to go around the top. The ivy was done with green gel.

The door is a graham cracker that I cut as is the drawbridge but I coated the drawbridge in icing. The walkway is broken up graham cracker. The moat is just blue icing and the grass is green icing covered with green tinted coconut flakes. I used my Wilton gel colors and put a little in with the coconut and just keep squishing it until it turned green.
