Cool Sports Ball Birthday Cake

I made this Sports Ball Birthday Cake for my grandson’s 2nd birthday. He loves balls, his dad is a sports nut – so I went all out! All of the cakes are iced with buttercream. I made a 12″ square white sheet cake and used the “grass” tip to cover.

The soccer ball (white cake mix) and basketball (chocolate cake mix) are each 1/2 of the Wilton Ball pans, the football (chocolate cake mix) is one of the oval pans from cake decorating class, the baseball (white cake mix) is the top of a cupcake and for the golf balls. I put a small amount of white cake mix batter in a petite four paper wrapper so it would be easier to lay flat on the cake.

I iced the golf balls gold and used the end of a artist brush handle to make small indentions in the golf balls. I wrote Marshall in purple dots on the golf balls and made the “Happy Birthday” flags on the computer and taped to wooden dowels.
