I made this Present Birthday Cake for my niece's 8th birthday. It was the first cake I made with fondant. She and all her friends loved it!!
I used Wilton fondant, 1 small box. I baked the cake in a 8in round pan, 1 layer of chocolate and 1 layer of yellow. I put strawberry filling and butter cream in between the layers. I crumb coated it. I dyed about half the fondant green (her favorite color) with food coloring.
I covered the cake with the fondant. I dyed about a quarter of the left over fondant pink (her birthstone color). I cut strips of the white fondant out for the ribbon and to make some of the loops in the bow. I used the left over green fondant to make bow loops. After the bow loops were done setting, I attached the white ribbon strips and the loops using a damp brush. I made little balls with the pink fondant and slightly flattened them and attached them to ribbon strips with a damp brush.
I attached pink ribbon strips to the bottom of the cake. I took a toothpick and carved the scroll things onto the cake. It was fun and simple to make!
This Homemade Prettiest Pink Gift Box Birthday Cake was for for my mum's 65th birthday. I started of with making a 14" and a 9" cake. I made almond butter cake and covered with marzipan and then plastic icing (fondant). I cut strips of fondant and placed them on the cake to look like a ribbon around a present.
I cut thinner, shorter strips out of modeling paste to make loops for the bow on top of the cake. Once these are dried and hard I glued them together with royal icing to make a present bow. I also cut the flowers out of fondant and colored them with edible powders and cachous. The cake topper was placed at the top in the middle surrounded by loops of the bow and flowers. The top tier was covered in cachous to give that sparkly look.
For the final touch I placed a ribbon around the bottom of the cakes, covered a cakeboard with pretty pearl pink paper and some decorative scrapbooking stick on roses. My mum loved it! Happy Birthday Mum!

I baked two round cakes for this Zebra Giftbox Birthday Cake. Frosted the top of one then laid the other on top and frosted the top and sides. I used plain white fondant and covered the cake.
Then I got some more fondant and dyed half black and half pink. I then rolled out my fondant and made the loops for my bows and let them dry. I rolled out the black fondant and then carved out the zebra stripes. I placed the zebra stripes all over the cake. Then went back to the pink and made some lil pink balls. Put them around the bottom of the cake and went back and put together my bow in the cake.

My first fondant cake experience was not so bad. I went to the dollar store and bought some throw away square cake pans. I bought the pre-rolled fondant. To make the bow i had to cut strips for fondant and mold the shape. then put in the fridge to get hard to hold the shape of the bow. after the cake has cooled icing the cake with butter cream icing, then put the rolled fondant on top. i used a quilting tool to make the print on the fondant. I then put the pieces of the bow together on tp of the cake making it a present.
