Circus Peanut Candy Shaped Cake

For my dad’s 72nd birthday, I knew that I wanted to create something fun. Everyone knows that my dad absolutely loves those gross little banana flavored circus peanuts and also rich chocolate cake. Put those two favorites together and here is what you get, a Circus Peanut Candy Shaped Cake!

The inside of the cake is a Mississippi mud cake (recipe from Planet Cakes in California). I then free handed the rest. This was the second cake that I have ever made.

Inside is 6 1″ layers of Mississippi mud cake piled high, held together by dark chocolate ganache. Topped with dyed fondant. If you would like to see the pictures of each step feel free to email me and I’d be happy to share.

  4. This was not a mold. I made a half sheet cake and a reg 9by 13 and after they cooled I took them out of the pans onto wax paper. I then froze for about 30 min. I then made a batch of ganache and layered 4 sections of cake high ( all depends on how big you want it.) after each layer freeze for 10 or so mins. One I hade the 4 ganached together I froze for another 30. This is when I began carving. I had an actual circus peanut to look at while I carved. After I got the shape I ganached the entire cake and froze briefly. Then used colored rolled marshmallow fondant (google for recipe) and layer on top. Have fun!
