I got the idea for the 1st birthday butterfly cake from this website, by Monica and wanted to submit my final product.
I made 3 different flavors, chocolate, orange and gluten free butter cake.
I iced each segment separately and lifted them onto the prepared board, which is covered with florists plastic coated paper, with two spatulas. I think the blue eyes on the butterfly is less harsh than black eyes for such a bright colored cake.
I used Mentos on the body, for the green dot on the bottom wing, and for the eyes, the circles are made with a sour rope and filled with colored sugar crystals. After I took this shot, I also sprinkled some edible glitter over the wings for that little bit of sparkle!
