Cool Homemade Pink Fondant Barbie Doll Cake for My Granddaughter

I made this Barbie Doll Cake for my granddaughter’s 5th birthday party. I had never worked with fondant before, so this was new for me. I got on Youtube and watched videos on fondant making and how to make a fondant rose. I made those up about a week ahead of time. I made so many that I got really good at those! For the doll, I started by baking 3 8-in yellow cakes, icing between the layers with buttercream and freezing. The next day, I carved the skirt out of the stacked cakes and put the doll body into it. I iced the skirt with buttercream. I’m a seamstress, so I just literally cut out the dress pieces out of 1/4 inch fondant and placed it on the doll body, then started draping the skirt. I set the doll on a long very thin cutting board to work on her. I piped the edges with a small star tip and finished it off with small fondant roses on her dress and in her hair.

I let her dry overnight before I transferred her (cutting board and all) over to the main cake. The main cake was 2 9×13’s put together and iced with buttercream. I put dowel rods under the doll to support it. I ended up with A LOT of cake! The doll would have probably been sufficient. She ended up bigger than I thought. My granddaughter loved her! She was a hit at the party!
