Coolest Monkey Cake and Cupcakes

This Monkey Cake and Cupcakes was for a monkey themed birthday party. It was for baby Aiden’s 1st birthday. Right away I knew I wanted to do monkey’s and bananas.

For the cake- I used the Wilton monkey shaped pan. The cake flavor is vanilla and I topped it with homemade buttercream frosting. I used the Wilton star tip on the entire cake. The bananas are made from the Make n Mold candy discs. I melted the yellow candy discs and placed them in the banana candy mold. I only had one banana mold, so I had to make all 12 banana’s, one at a time. The candy discs were vanilla flavor.

For the cupcakes- The cupcakes are vanilla flavored and topped with homemade buttercream frosting. There is a “1” and a monkey on each cupcake. The “1” is made from the yellow candy discs and are vanilla flavored- and again, I only had one mold, so each one had to be made one at a time. The monkey candy was made from the chocolate flavored candy discs and I actually had two of these molds, so that process went a little faster.

Overall, the cake and cupcakes probably took about 3-4 hours to decorate and put together, it took a long time, but the outcome was great. The customer loved it.

  1. I just bought the same monkey pan today at Michael’s. They have a variety to choose from and even give you instructions on how to pipe on the frosting.
