Coolest Pirate Ship Cake

I created this pirate ship cake when I found the unpainted wooden “birdhouse” at Michaels Craft Store. I also purchased some painted wooden items at Michaels and then my sister painted the ship, alligator and treasure chest while I did the cake.

The cake was two medium size sheet pans placed side by side so that the cake would be large enough for the ship. The upright wooden pieces had a Popsicle stick attached to the back (also painted) to stick them in the cake securely.

The ocean was colored gel applied over white icing.

Strings of Dragees made the jewels in the treasure chest and foil covered chocolate coins decorated the border.
