Coolest Texas Hold Em Birthday Cake

I got a lot of great ideas from this site for my husband’s Texas Hold Em Birthday Cake. I took a couple of ideas from different cakes and put them together. I used my husband’s favorite chocolate cake recipe, and doubled the square and round layers.

I used a white butter cream frosting to ice the layers, and piped edging using the same frosting. The cards on top are rolled fondant, and I tinted some of the buttercream icing to pipe on the card suits. The poker chips are made from rolled fondant that I tinted with gel food coloring, and cut out using the cap from an olive oil bottle. The shapes on the sides of the cake are made from Wilton’s new sugar sheets, which worked out well. I used cookie cutters to cut out the shapes, although it was a little work cutting out the shapes from the sheets, you really need something sharp to cut shapes out of the sheets.
