For this crown cake I made a single layer half sheet cake as the base and topped it with a cake made in a Wiltons crown pan. For the crown I just frosted with buttercream and covered it with tinted pink fondant and added pink luster dust for definition. I then added pink and white drage’s with a drop of white icing and wrote my daughter’s name. My suggestion is to make both cakes separately and then plop the crown one on top of the other and trim around it. Use a big spatula or two to transfer one cake onto the other.
My daughter designed this crown cake herself for her 9th birthday party. She new exactly what she wanted and ended up helping ice and decorate it.
I used two Betty Crocker cake mixes. I used the supplied icing. I made chocolate shards from Cadburys cooking chocolate melted and spread evenly on baking paper on an even cold surface. As chocolate begins to harden gently cut the shape you would like with sharp knife. Wait until completely hard and break gently.
Ribbon and candles came from an emporium. My daughter’s favorite chocolate on top and liquid chocolate poured over crown cake.
