Simple and Cool Jake and the Neverland Pirates Cake

My three year old grandson wanted a Jake and the Neverland party.  My daughter found the figurines on clearance and they worked perfectly for the “Jake” Cake!

The bottom cake is made with a blue raspberry cake mix and the top is white.  There is a layer of buttercream under the fondant and the fondant is a simple marshmallow recipe.  My daughter and I worked the fondant and learned that it turned out marbled and made the blue look like water.  We had already spread the brown or it would have looked like the old paper of a map if we had thought of it sooner.

I added brown sugar on top and around the base to replica sand and it worked great.  If you haven’t tried fondant, I would highly recommend it.  It is so fun to work with and if you mess up, you just re-roll it and start over. Overall, this was one of the easier cakes that I have made for the grandkids and lots of fun!
