This Homemade Barbie Doll Birthday Cake Idea was made for my niece who is turning 8. She wanted a Barbie cake and I searched this site to find one. I found about four pictures that I truly liked and incorporated parts of all of them into this one. I used my nieces' favorite colors.
I used ready made frosting for the entire cake. The bottom of the cake is made in a 13x9" tin and the doll is made with the Wilton Classic Wonder Mold. The bottom part is a two layer strawberry cake with strawberry frosting. The doll is a yellow cake. The very bottom is covered with piped stars and candy pearls put in the middle of each star. The white flowers come from a box of candy flowers and the green stems were drawn onto the cake.
The doll dress is all piped with stars and green and the waist and outline are pink. I found a bottle of candy hearts and picked out the pink and white ones and placed on the dress. The doll is holding a mini cupcake with 9 candles in which one is for good luck. It took about 3 hours to decorate the entire cake.
Everyone loved the cake at the party and so I decided that I should post the cake at the site that inspired the design.

I made this for my daughter's 3rd birthday party.. I baked 3 8 inch round cakes and one cake in a glass bowl, then i stacked them up on the cake plate and crumb coated it. Put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes to reduce the crumbs and then frosted it. I made little swirls to make the dress look like billowing fabric, then placed a birthday balloon toy that i found in a my little pony toy set and a candle in her hands and put some candy hearts on the dress for the final touch!! I had so much fun making this cake and I think it's the best one I have ever made!! Oh yeah and I used strawberry cake and strawberry frosting!!
I made this Barbie Doll Birthday Cake Idea with a Pampered Chef Batter Bowl. I used two cake mixes (vanilla). Made 1st cake mix. Cooled cake for 3 hours. Made second cake. Cut off 1/2 of one of the cakes to just use the bottom (wide part) as dress base. This is required to ensure the cake will be high enough.
Put icing in between base and 2nd cake to hold. Cut a hole in center for Barbie. Inserted the whole Barbie (legs intact). We bought the icing premade from the bakery. This was very easy to make.
The cost was probably about $70 including purchase of $20 Barbie. This included making an additional 24 cupcakes.
My daughter wanted a Homemade Barbie Doll Mermaid Cake for her 6th birthday. I used a bunt cake pan for the bottom and a small Pyrex bowl for the top part, I used a paper towel tube to cut out the center of the bowl cake for the doll to set in. I used home made from scratch buttercream icing and decorated the cake as the ocean scene and put colored gold fish around for additional affect.
My daughter wanted a Homemade Barbie Fairy Birthday Cake for her 6th birthday. She also wanted the "Barbie Fairytopia" movie. I was able to combine both ideas for a great girlie birthday cake!
Using a 2 qt batter bowl, I made the skirt for the doll and covered it with marshmallow fondant. The doll sat on two layers of chocolate, covered with buttercream icing: one green for the grass and the other blue with star.
