I made this My Little Pony Rainbow cake for my daughter’s 4th birthday. The sky is a sheet cake with white frosting. The clouds are made with blue food spray. Technique: tear a paper towel across, leaving it uneven. Starting at the top of the cake, lay the paper towel across the cake an inch or so from the top (rough edges up) and spray lightly back and forth.
Move the paper towel down and slightly left or right to create a variety of cloud effects, repeating until the cake is covered in clouds. The rainbow is a round cake cut in half and secured to the sheet cake with Popsicle sticks, decorated with Smarties in rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). The kids will have fun sorting them by color for you. Add a few ponies, and voila!
My girls were so excited to see it come to together, and all the kids at the party were thrilled with the design, not to mention the promise of Smarties!
