My niece LOVES the Wizard of Oz so it was time to get creative since finding Wizard of Oz items can be difficult at best and that is what she wanted her birthday party theme to be. Thanks to the fellow contributors to this site I got some great ideas for a Wizard of oz cake.

I started with a regular 9 X 13 cake pan. I used Wilton coloring paste for the yellow brick road, grass, poppies, and sky and used a toothpick to draw the lines for the yellow brick road. The characters were a little tougher to come by. I make high quality color copies of the characters and emerald city. I pasted them to cardboard for sturdiness, and then used an exacto knife to cut them out.

I attached a triangle cut out to the back so that they could stand up on the cake (with the cardboard they were too heavy to stand up on the cake by simply inserting the characters into the cake).
