My friend is kind of unusual. She's very creative and wanted an unusual cake for her birthday. She loves flowers so checked this site for flower birthday cakes and this is what I came up with this. It's an exotic flower with an eye in the middle. I drew each petal on paper and used them as the template to carve it out. I used eight vanilla cake mixes and prepared them according to the box directions. They're stacked in two layers.
The petals are carved from the top layer and the leaves are carved from the bottom layer. I mixed food color and white icing to get the colors that I wanted. The eyelashes are slices of licorice. The veins in the eye were drawn with a toothpick and strawberry glaze.

I made this cake for my Mom's birthday. I made an easy cake recipe. I made some homemade Buttercream Icing for frosting and the roses. I made about 25-30 roses. I got the idea from a Wilton cake idea book for flower birthday cakes.
