Cool Homemade 3 Tiered Construction Birthday Cake
I made this construction birthday cake for my grandson’s 2nd birthday. I started with a three tier mountain cake with a chocolate road leading to a one tier cake. To make the large construction cones I used ice cream cones covered with orange candy melts placed on chocolate covered graham crackers. All the lettering and signs are cut from rolled fondant.
The small construction cones and candle holders are made out of fondant. The rocks are a variety of chocolate covered nuts and fruit trimmed with green icing for grass and yellow icing for flowers. The construction theme continued when the cakes were cut. One was a chocolate cake layered with gummy worms and cookie crumbs. Two of the cakes were dark chocolate and bright yellow diagonal stripes. The instructions can easily be found by searching online.
It’s always fun to have my grandson’s help decorate. By using a poster size foam board covered with a plastic tablecloth for the base and a hard chocolate road they were able to fill the trucks with “rocks” and drive them on the road without damaging the cakes before the party started.
