Coolest Jungle Cake

This Jungle cake was my first attempt at sculpting anything. I am taking a class and this was my final project. There are two versions so you can see how I finished up.

The cake was prepared using a book shaped pan. I just baked a basic yellow cake recipe. And covered it with fondant. The animals were made out of fondant as well. For the monkeys I made two circles, one large and one small. I then attached them to each other using a little meringue paste and water. I then formed the ears. I used a different color for the face and just shaped it out with a knife.

A food coloring marker I used for eyes and mouths. The Elephants where the same process. For the bananas I used yellow fondant and brushed it with a bit of brown food colouring. I then took a small paint brush and painted on the vines.

To finish I used royal icing and a piped the leaves with a #68 and #69 tube. Then I used a number 2 tube for the lettering. I hope this was helpful ( I am still learning)!
