Coolest Kitty Cat Cake

I made this cake for my daughters 4th birthday. She is cat mad and wanted a cake that looked like Lulu her favourite soft toy cat. I was a bit nervous as I’ve never done a completely fondant covered cake before. I couldn’t decide how to do a homemade kitty cat cake and even dreamt about it!

In the end I baked 2 tray baked sponges and then baked a sponge in a glass bowl for the head. I carved all the shapes while the cake was frozen and then ‘glued’ it all together with strawberry jam and butter icing. The feet were all made from big chunks of fondant and then the whole thing was covered in one large piece, rolled out.

When my daughter went to bed the night before her birthday, it looked like a mummified cat and she was very concerned that it had no face! By the next morning it had been transformed and she loved her homemade kitty cat cake. I can’t wait for the next challenge!
