Coolest Lobster Cake Bake

This lobster cake is one of my favorites.  After I made all the cakes in large rectangle pans, I then made a stencil out of paper for what I wanted each piece to look like.  Once the lobster shape was made I layered the fondant on the tail to give the tail the proper look.

The small connection pieces are just fondant with no cake and little legs went together sooo easy.  Than I decided I wanted him on a picnic table. So I made another sheet cake and put him on the center of it,  took a fondant roller and did the square pattern and then dusted every other square for a tablecloth effect.  I like to add a little humor in a cake so I  decided to add the nutcrackers, because it was funny and the lemon because really everyone wants lemon on lobster!

FINISHING TOUCHES:

Best part of this cake was adding the ants. They gave it a little more character. Every picnic has ants, they say so, so why make this picnic cake any different?  I loved adding the chocolate seashells and starfish. I used molds and made them not even knowing what I was going to do with them. Then I decided to add brown sugar for an additional beachy effect.

The phrase “designated divers do it with steam ” was because they were celebrating the 4th of July and they were all professional divers… and of course it was a lobster bake. I really really loved this cake  It was definitely one of my favorite cakes I made and I still look back on it and can’t believe how nice it came out. It  took forever to make.  Usually my best cakes are ones that have no plan and I can just design as I go.
