Coolest Pirate Birthday Cake

For my son’s 5th birthday I made a Pirate Birthday Cake. There were a lot of people at this party so I made 2 9×13 cakes next to each other. You could make just one. So I made 2 boxed cakes and placed them next to each other and frosted them as one. The top is white frosting and the sides are choc frosting. I used blue decorating gel smeared into the frosting as the water. And brown sugar as the sand. I piped choc frosting to create a division between the two. I put an eye patch with a skull in the corner.

At The Dollar Tree I found these plastic pirate toy kits. I bought several different ones and used them to decorate the cake. I piped the sides with chocolate frosting as well. Then I put plastic gold coins at an angle all the way around the sides.
