Coolest Pool Party Cake

A friend asked me to make her a cake for a pool party to kick off the summer season. I searched online and combined several cool ideas I found. This is a white 9-inch two layer cake filled with raspberry filling. The filling is made by heating seedless raspberry jam in the microwave and mixing in a packet of raspberry Jello.

I crumb coated the cake and cut out a kidney shaped pool and then crumb coated the inside of the pool area. The pool is an inch deep. I made the pool water by mixing a packet of blue Jello with ½ cup of boiling water and then added ½ cup cold water. Once the Jello started to get firm, I poured it in the pool.

I then frosted and decorated the cake. I used Teddy Grahams and put tiny bathing suits on them. The diving board is a stick of gum on 4 Pez candies for a platform with 2 gummy Life Savers cut in half for the sides. The pool floats are gummy apple rings. The beach ball is a jawbreaker I painted lines on with food coloring. The pool floats and towels are made from fruit gummy strips and I used Pez candies for pillows on the pool floats.

I was really amazed at how well this homemade pool party cake turned out. The sun was the only thing that was not so good. The rays are kind of uneven, but I still think it’s a really cool cake!
