Coolest Tom Cat Cake

I was asked to make a cake for a cat charity event at work and thought this Tom cat cake would be appropriate. I saw lots of these types of cakes when looking on the internet for ideas. I downloaded a picture and off I went. I started by making the cake using a large hemisphere cake tin. I made a lemon Madeira cake with lemon butter cream. I covered it all in grey icing, cut out all of the shapes for the face and built it up.

The hardest part was getting the mouth piece right which took a few attempts.  The ears were made out of flower paste and left to dry before attaching so they were hard and stood up. The floor is made to look like wood which is easy to do. Cut out strips of brown icing and use a knife to softly make small lines in it. I then used a small piping nozzle end to make little circles on the ends to look like nails. I then added fingers coming through the hole as well.

Unfortunately I was pushed for time and did not have time to make a Jerry for the cake but as it was for a cat charity it was fine. This cake went down really well. Everybody thought it was fabulous and was for a good cause.
