One of my friends, Sheena, is from Oklahoma and is a barrel racer so I thought a western themed cake was fitting for her birthday party. She is a member of the national barrel horse association (NBHA), hence the barrel on the front of the cake.
I started this Western Birthday Cake with two 10 inch round cakes and cut them to have three layers. The cake was chocolate with raspberry butter cream filling and butter cream frosting. The boots, barrel, stars, and rope are made with fondant and cut out using cookie cutters. I used an edible marker to draw the designs on the boots and the stars are edged with edible pearls attached with pink frosting.
For the rope, I rolled out pink and brown fondant and then twisted them together. I cut a large hole in a Ziploc bag of icing to make the dots around the edge.
This cake was a big hit at the party! This is one of my all time favorite cakes.
