Coolest White Cat Birthday Cake

Preparing for my daughter’s fifth birthday, she could not decide on a theme. Two days before the big day, she decided she wants “snowy”, our pure white kitten to be the subject of her special cake.

My good friend had found a fondant recipe on you-tube using marshmallows and microwaving them with confectioners sugar, which was cheap, easy, and tasty. We mixed up a batch and kept it white (easy), then I rolled it out with a rolling pin. It takes practice to get the texture right, and I was running out of time, so mine isn’t as smooth as I would like.

I used an 8″ round pan for the body and a cupcake for the head. I carved out the area for the haunches and used the curved piece as the tail. I carved and relocated a few key areas of cake, then frosted them in place before covering it with the fondant. Some well placed frosting held up the head, and I formed the front paws and ears out of the fondant. Some quick ‘painting’ with a Q-tip, toothpicks, and red food coloring to get the pink ears, and we were in business. To give the fur texture (and disguise the rough fondant) I sprinkled large grain sparkly white sugar over the whole cat.

Snowy was appropriately weird out by the entire ordeal, but my daughter loved her Homemade White Cat Birthday Cake!

i’ll make it gray since her favorite cat, romeo, is gray, and do you think I can use just butter cream? my mom hates fondant, so… thanks for this great idea!
