Incredibly Awesome Bow Tie Cake

When my sister in law asked me to make a cake for her son, I said yes!  Of course!  Then she said she wanted it to be a dress shirt with a bow tie.  Then I thought, “Well that’s not going to be very exciting.”  But I started researching for a bow tie cake anyway.  She also mentioned that she wanted me to include a baseball card somewhere because he loves baseball.

So I took to her Facebook page and found a picture of him wearing his baseball hat, downloaded it, and turned it into a personalized baseball card. Printed it and laminated it.  Then I made his chocolate cake and covered it with marshmallow fondant (yum!)  I hand formed his bow tie and the buttons for the shirt. I wanted to color the shirt but decided against it. I figured that if he was going to wear a bow tie, it would most likely only go with a white shirt. So it stayed white. I made the pocket a real pocket that was only attached on the sides and bottom, then slid his baseball card into it, slightly sticking out.

We had his party at our house. Everyone was in the kitchen when he got there. When he came in and saw the cake he was SO EXCITED! AND he was wearing a white dress shirt and bow tie! It was perfect!  I couldn’t have planned it better. For weeks every time he saw me he said “Thank you so much for my cake!  I LOVE IT!”.
