Homemade Polka Dot and Zebra Print Birthday Cake
My daughter completely designed her Polka Dot and Zebra Print Birthday Cake. By all means she wanted a green and black zebra print cake with polka dots.
We made a 3 tier cake with dowels inserted at each level for support. The bottom tier was 10 inches and was white cake with a chocolate filling. The 7 inch center tier was chocolate cake with chocolate filling. The top tier measured 4 inches and was white cake with a cream cheese filling.
The cake mixes were all store bought. The entire cake was covered with a homemade buttercream icing then fondant was used for accents. The fondant was a buttercream recipe that was found online. The zebra stripes were cut free hand with a pizza cutter and the circles were cut with a circle fondant cutter. My husband constructed the stainless steel "E" at work, then I covered it with stick-on jewels for a little sparkle.
My niece was turning 15! And she is a newage drama queen. So, a simple cake wouldn't do. The only thing she likes is clothing and fashion. Which nowadays, is neon colors and animal print. So, I decided to do a zebra print cake, BUT it couldn't but just white and black since she loves neon. I went with the neon pink and did one layer inbetween and the icing was neon green (her favorite colors). After I iced it I froze it so the icing would be stiff and smooth. Then, I took a black icing, drew the stripes and filled them in. Then, I rechilled it for about 20 minutes. When I took it out I smoothed the stripes and put the HAPPY BIRTHDAY on it. When she saw it she loved it. She thought it was an awesome cake. I have more pictures on my website SamanthasSweetCakes.com
This Jungle Zebra Birthday Cake I made for my son's 1st birthday. The top layer is chocolate and the bottom layer is vanilla.
All the animals are made by hand from fondant. I covered the cakes in butter icing (for flavour and to help make the rolled fondant stick). I then covered them one at a time with thin fondant. I then placed on on top of the other before sticking the black zebra stripes on with a little water.
I placed the animals around and also stuck them into place with water. The giraffe has two tooth picks in his neck to hold it up.
The cake was time consuming as I have never decorated one like this before. With practice, I think it would get quicker.
I got ideas for the design from the internet. I took ideas from lots of different cakes and put them all together.

This Neon Colored Zebra Print Cake was made for a friend of mine who couldn't really come up with what she wanted for a cake for the longest time. Finally she said I like bright colors and zebra print and this is what I came up with.
It's just a small 2 tier cake covered in dyed fondant and then I cut zebra stripes out of fondant and airbrushed them black and placed them on the cake.

My best friend for over 25 year's daughter turned 16 and I made her the cake she wanted. This was one of the first fondant cakes I ever did and I loved making it. I used Satin Ice fondant because out of all I tasted this was the best!!! Would never use anything else.
Each tier on this Pink/Black Zebra cake was a different flavor and everything on it was edible.
I used fondant for this Pink Zebra Print Birthday Cake. The top is lemon, then Root Beer, last is strawberry. I made everything from scratch except the coloring. I used American Girl coloring for the Pink and Wilton for the Black. I did make my own black sugar though. This took me about two days.
