This baby cake was made for a baby shower. I used a 9x13 cake. I froze the cake overnight. In the morning, I cut the frozen cake into the shape of the baby in blanket. I mixed both chocolate and vanilla for the skin tone coloring.
The blanket color is just plain vanilla icing. I used food coloring to dye some of the vanilla icing pink and some blue. I piped this on using a Ziploc bag with a corner snipped off. I outlined and drew the face with Wilton black icing. I tried to spray the cheeks with icing spray but it came out too red, so I just made the cheeks rosier by swirling it.
The was my first attempt at a nappy cake which I made for my niece. It was made up of 60 Pampers nappies, 1 blanket, 2 muslin squares, 3 pairs pink socks, 3 pairs white socks made into rose buds, brush, comb, plastic spoons & forks, scissors, little shoes, small pink bunny, 2 bibs and some baby clothes rolled up and placed inside.
Ithink it turned out OK and my niece was really pleased with it. Really enjoyed making it and can't wait to make another one.
This Baby Cake was baked in Wilton's Special Delivery pan. The cake board was cut in the shape of the cake, a kick stand like on a picture frame was taped to the back of the cake board so it stands up.
