I just stared making cakes on the side (my 3rd cake) and a friend of mine was turning 30. His wife got in touch with me and wanted me to make a fun cake for his birthday. I decided to do an old timey "bucket of beer" cake for him since we were having his party on a party barge on the lake.
The whole cake is made out of vanilla with homemade buttercream icing. I used pirouette cookie sticks around the side of the cakes, to make it look like wood. I then took black fondant and made a "ribbon" around the bottom and used fondant to make the banner, the bottle opener, the bikini bottom and top, and the swim trunks. The whole cake was edible except for the beer bottles. They were the 7 oz beer bottles that you can buy.
Overall I think the Homemade 30th Birthday Bucket of Beer Cake turned out pretty good, especially considering this was my 3rd custom cake.
I made this beer cake for my husband's 28th birthday. He was very surprised. This cake started as a 12x18 cake. I made a pattern on a piece of paper. I put the paper on top of the cake and cut around it. There was a lot of extra cake but that's what I used for the banners.
I used homemade buttercream colored with Wilton gel colors and I put yellow sugar sprinkles on top to make it look shiny. I studied a Corona bottle and drew it all on a piece of paper first. Then looking at my drawing I drew on the cake with a toothpick and then just followed the toothpick marks to do the writing.
I also used a very small writing tip. I used lime slices to garnish the edges and I even put a lime wedge in the top of the bottle.
I made this Beer Bucket Cake for a friend's birthday party this past week. The cake itself is a 6 layer white cake made from scratch. Each layer was colored either white or blue. I used home made butter frosting and food colored fondant strips on the sides. I then made the ice from sugar/corn syrup in a ice tray. The beer bottles were also a sugar/corn syrup mix.
I made the beer bottle mold from an actual miller bottle. All the labels were made at a local bakery with edible photos. That's the only part I didn't make. The cake was a hit at the party and most people thought it wasn't really cake!
I made this Homemade Beer Bottle Cake Design for my brother's birthday this weekend. Everyone was amazed. The bottles are made of sugar, as well as the ice cubes. The bowl for mixed nuts was also made of sugar.
I had a great time making this cake. The bucket is German chocolate cake with German chocolate filling between the layers. That was his favorite cake when he was a kid!
