Coolest Pink and Purple Castle Cake Fit for a Queen

This was my very first castle cake and I felt really good about how it came out. All the guests were amazed that I’d made it myself. I used the hexagon pan set, 12″ and 8″. The bottom layer was homemade butter cake and the top was double chocolate & covered in periwinkle homemade buttercreme.

The castle door was made from a white chocolate candy bar & the bridge was nutty butty bars. The drawbridge chains were spaghetti covered in buttercreme and sprinkles. I used 2 paper towel rolls cut in half for the towers, just covered in buttercreme & the tower roofs were made of ice cream cones dipped in pink colored white chocolate and sprinkled before the chocolate dried. And then buttercreme piped around the base of the roofs with a star tip.

I colored a small amount of fondant yellow and made balls for tops of the towers and flags on toothpicks (once flags dried, I stuck the toothpick ends into the balls. The tiny flowers on the walls of the castle were made of fondant and I used the smallest flower cutter of the flower making set to cut them out.

And finally the bottom border is just marshmallows I found in star shapes, perfect for the effect that the castle is floating on the clouds. I found Disney princess toys and chose two to place on the cake, instead of all the princess. After all, we were having a princess birthday ball, not a Disney princess party.

My girls were so happy with their cake when they woke the morning of the party and saw it for the first time. That made it worth all the hard work.
