Coolest Shark Cake

My son was wanting a different looking cake. We looked on line and found a cake that I was going to order…then we discovered that the cake store was in London! So we decided we could come up with our own shark cake from what we had seen.

I began with 2 bundt cakes, both strawberry. Then we cooked some more strawberry cake in muffin tins(they helped make the top of the head and part of the tail) and a bread pan(it helped make the tail).

We made the eyes and the teeth using fondant. That was the first time using that stuff! It worked well. The original shark we saw was completely covered in fondant, which really looked great! Our cake turned out a little more comical!

I stacked one Bundt cake slightly slanted on top of the other one and used lollipop sticks to hold it together. For the tail, I used the bread pan size cake and then cut up pieces to look like the tail and held them all toghether with a lot of toothpicks!

The icing was colored with blue food coloring which never turned blue no matter how much I added to the butter cream frosting…it just turned aqua.

We then added red gel icing to the corners of the mouth for the blood effect, and loaded the mouth with candy(runts, gummy worms, candy bracelets, nerds etc.) Then more candy around the shark.

I hope it helps give someone an idea to run with! It was fun for my kids!
