Coolest Teal and Gold Cake

I’m a home-hobby caker who essentially makes cakes for friends, family and fundraising. I especially love getting a commission where I can design my own cake and I have free-reign to try and test new techniques that perhaps I’m not so confident at doing when someone is actually PAYING me to make their dream cake. So, when my friend Angela and her lovely daughter Taylor from Star Events in Perth, Western Australia, were hosting a special Teal & Gold themed fundraising event to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Australia, and asked me to donate something special, how could I say no?!

This cake was created during a week where I actually made THREE – yes, 3! – 2+tier cakes (eeschk!) AND worked full time, so it was crazy busy, but, I finally got to try my hand at ruffles and practiced my sharp edges, which is difficult to do when only using smoothers and not a special tool! I’ve never formally learned to make flowers either, but I would love to afford a class one day – still I don’t think these attempts are too terrible??!
