Cool Toddler Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my grandaughter’s (Breann) third birthday party. My goal was to make something that would be impressive to a three year old. In total, there are three layers: one 8″ round, one 6″ square, and one 6″ round. The cake is strawberry and vanilla layered. I used food coloring in the batter so that when the cake is cut, Breann will see blue, pink, white, and green. The desired effect is a rainbow pattern. For the crumb coat, I used the same colors in butter cream icing. For the inchworm, I used strawberry cake balls and covered them in colored fondant, then I used an edible marker to draw the eyes and the mouth. All of this is topped with twisty candles for antennas. I added the third antenna for her age.
