The frog cake is a lemon Madeira cake using a six egg recipe. The head is a 0.5 liter Pyrex bowl, the body is a 2 liter Pyrex bowl - half fill the 0.5 liter bowl before filling the 2 liter bowl with cake mix. Bake at 160 - 1 hour for the head and 1.5 hours for the body.
Make up butter cream using 125g butter and 375g sugar and 2tablespoons of lemon juice. Split the body in half and spread with buttercream, place the head on the body and spread the entire cake with butter cream.
Using 1.5 kg of green fondant icing. Use 45g to pad the face - to raise the eyes and mouth. Save 175g of icing to make the arms, eye lids and feet.
Roll out the rest of the icing to a large circle and lift over the frogs head, then mold around his head and body.
Shape the arms, and feet and attach using egg white. Shape the nose and mouth with a knife and paintbrush handle. Use small amounts or black and yellow icing to make the eyes and stick them on using egg white.
These were so much fun to make. They took a while but they were fun.
I made the cupcakes using a box recipe.
For the frogs... I iced them with store bought frosting died green. I used green peanut M&M's, white frosting and chocolate chips. I used the frosting like glue to attach the chocolate chips to the M&M's. I stuck the M&M's into each cupcake Standing on end to give them a 3D look. I used pink frosting to make a smile on each frog.
For the Lily Pads... I iced them with store bought frosting died blue. I made a box of sugar cookies and colored them green. I baked the cookies and while they were still warm, I cut a V out of each cookie. I placed each cookie on the blue cupcakes and using a star tip I used yellow frosting to put a flower on each pad.
It was fun to watch the kids eat them. The older kids were too funny. They told the younger kids "take a lily pad because you get a cookie and a cupcake." Too Funny!!
I made this Homemade Baby Shower Frog Cake for a friends baby shower. She wanted a frog, turtle, and snail theme. I found a few pics on several sites that I went off. I made a 6in Orange supreme cake for the top layer. The bottom layer was 9in white on top and choc on bottom with choc fudge icing in middle. Both layers were covered with vanilla icing.
I made a homemade marshmallow fondant for the frogs, turtles, snails, and dots. The cupcakes were a mixture of strawberry with choc chips, strawberry with buttercream filling, orange supreme with buttercream filling, choc with buttercream filling, and white with choc fudge filling. Each frog, turtle and snail was made out of the fondant. For the other cupcakes I used a cupcake pick mold with the alphabet on it to spell out the baby's name in colored choc.
The only tip I used for the icing was the grass tip. It went well with the theme. Over all everyone LOVED it !
My friend asked me to make her favourite animal, the Azure blue poison Dart Frog Cake.
The cakes to make the body and head of the frog were baked in 2 different sized oven-proof bowls, this was then covered with one very large piece of blue sugarpaste icing and gently folded in around the neck.
I then pressed two dents into the head for the eyeballs to sit in and made little eyelids to droop down over the top. The arms and legs are moulded sugarpaste.
I then painted in the pupils of the eyes (Azure frogs actually have black eyes but I thought it looked a bit sinister and decided to cartoonise it) and black spots over the head and back.
