This is the graduation cake I made. This is the first time I tried my hand at Fondant. Since I don't like the taste of ready made fondant I tried making marshmallow fondant. I wasn't sure whether it will come out right so I didn't add any colour. Once it came out well I was scared to add colour so kept it white.
The book was made from 1/4 sheet cake cut into two and stacked one on top of the other using butter cream icing. I carved the cake a bit to give an outward curve on one side and an inward curve on the other. Then I frosted the 3 sides with butter icing and made it look like pages using serrated side of a knife. I then covered it with fondant before putting on the other cake. I planned to put the graduation cap on top of the book. But the book it self was heavy ,so I kept it separate.
The flowers are made of fondant. I made them by hand. I made everything from scratch. The graduation cap was carved out of cake and the board on top is matzo biscuit. It took me 15 hours to make this cake from start to finish. I think I would have saved some time if I had two cake pans. It was a hit. Everybody loved the cake and the fondant.
I made this Graduation Cake for my best friend's sons high school graduation. I started with two 9 x 13" cakes and one 6" round. I iced the round cake in chocolate icing and the "books" in butter cream tinted blue and orange leaving three sides not iced. I then placed wooden dowels, cut to size in to bottom layer.
The top cake was placed on a cake board cut to exact size so it wouldn't show. The subjects were iced with a #2 round tip and white butter cream. I then placed three wooden dowels in the center top of the middle layer and a cake board under the cap, again cut to exact size. The top of the cap was made by freezing melted milk chocolate chips in a zipper freezer bag until hard. The tassels were made from licorice that was knotted and attached with more chocolate icing.
I then made the pages with a basket weaving tip and white butter cream. I finished the cap with a boarder using a star tip and chocolate icing. This cake was a huge success at his party and I already have plans for one after college.
I created this Graduation Cake for a kid's graduation party. I used fondant on the layers and premixed color fondant for the shapes. The hat was made in a cereal bowl. The top of the hat is a piece of card stock.
I was going to hang a tassel at the top, but ran out of time to tie it securely. This cake can easily be done using round cake pans. It will actually be easier to put the fondant on. The edges were hard to fix, so most just have shapes on top of the seams!
This was a Homemade Graduation Cake I made for my youngest sister. She went to Allen Park High School and headed to Michigan State for college! Colors for both schools were green and white so that made things easy to combine both schools on the cake.
The magazines represent what she is majoring in (journalism/fashion)and the drama masks represent what she is minoring in. This was quite a hit and was gone before the party was over!
This homemade graduation cake was made for a friend's daughter's graduation... she loves monkeys. I made the monkey out of rice krispie treats, as well as the basketball. I then covered them with fondant.
The books are red velvet cake (each double layered) covered with buttercream and fondant... everything else on the cake is fondant (I used gel coloring to color the fondant). This homemade graduation cake was a BIG HIT at the graduation party!
