I used a 16″ round for the bottom, covered it with fondant and put purple flowers for a border.
The individual dresses were from the wonder mold and the bride’s dress was from a Pampered Chef mixing bowl then covered them in fondant.
I made the hangers and tops of dresses out of fondant as well. These bridal shower cakes were a big hit at the party.
I made this Barbie skirt cake for my brother’s fiancés’ shower. I used a roasting pan for the bottom and baked two cake mixes, one chocolate and one yellow. Mix each separately. Don’t forget to grease your pan.
I poured the yellow mix in first. Then I took the chocolate and made little circles on top of the yellow. Take a knife and swirl together. This creates a marble effect. I baked the cake using the boxes directions for temperature but you will have to leave it in longer for time.
For the dress I used two pound cake mixes and prepared them to bake. This makes a firmer cake for the dress. I used a Wilton Barbie pan for the dress. This can be purchased at Michael’s. Once the cakes are baked and cooled I put them together. I put the dress on the side of the sheet cake so I could write something.
I borrowed a Barbie from my daughter and wrapped her legs in saran wrap. Leave the Barbie naked. You will be frosting her. Then put her in the middle of the dress. They also sell dolls with a pick for legs if you prefer to do that. I used pre-made frosting. I frosted the bottom light purple because that is a color from the wedding and them I got creative and used a star tip to decorate the Barbie.
I think this cake turned out great and my soon to be sister has tried my other Barbie shower cakes and was happy I personalized one just for her.

I already had the house cake pan that I made into a church and the larger pan for the base. Both are Wilton cake pans.
My friends were going to the UK for their honeymoon and they were getting married in a country church. I was at a cake store where I found the British car and all my wedding cake ideas came into place from there. Dowels keep the church in place. I made buttercream icing for the cake.

I prepared a boxed cake according to directions using the Pampered Chef classic 2 quart batter bowl but I burned the first one. I made a second one and lowered the temperature but increased the time cooked to 45 minutes.
LET IT COOL COMPLETELY. I got the idea from a friend of mine who sells Pampered Chef. I bought a Wilton ribbon cake plate and fondant. However I used regular store bought icing for in between the layers of cake and fondant. To feed 60 people I made extra round layer cakes for underneath Barbie. It actually gave the illusion of a southern-bell type bridal gown.
I made the dress and headpiece for Barbie from material from a craft store and put it all together the night before my sister’s bridal shower.
Everyone raved about our cake. They thought a bakery made this cake. It is simple once you do it the first time.

This is the cake that I made for my co-worker’s wedding party. I used a few different techniques and designs that I’ve never tried before and I was pretty happy with the results. I had to use 4 slab cakes for this. One half was a lemon filling and the other half was filled with whipped icing and fresh sliced strawberries.
I didn’t have a pan large enough to make this size cake, so I had to make two double layer 8″ x 11″ slab cakes and just put them together. So that’s why it kind-of has an “open book” look to it. I hope to see more wedding cake ideas in this section!

I made this bridal shower cake for my friend’s bridal shower. I used my Pampered Chef batter bowl. It makes a dome shaped cake like the Wonder mold., I baked two cakes and used the top half from one and both of the bottom halves. I made a huge batch of buttercream icing. I used some Wilton’s Icing Color White-White to brighten it so it wouldn’t look off white. I iced between the layers and on the outside of the cake.
I bought a Wilton’s doll pick (top half is a doll and bottom half is a stick) and put her in the cake. Then I took my decorator (you could use tips and a bag) and using the star tip began to make her top, below her waist and the hem. The icing was a little too warm and I had a hard time keeping the cake and icing in place. I put her in the fridge for a while and that helped but you can see where the icing had come out between the layers a little.

This cake was made for a friend’s bridal shower. I used a Wilton doll cake pan for her dress and it is finished off with fondant icing. The flowers were piped out with #16 tip and buttercream icing. I used edible iridescent glitter for a finishing touch to the cake.

This is not an edible cake, but it was still a big hit! We used three bath towels rolled up together for the base. They were tied with ribbon. The second tier was four hand towels, each rolled and tied with ribbon separately. The final tier was six face cloths tied separately. We tied on some things for the bathroom following that theme. They were also tied on with ribbon.
We placed it on a cake plate, then decorated with artificial flowers. We finally topped it off with a comical wedding cake topper. A bride dragging the groom!

I made this cake for my sister’s bridal shower. Got the idea for making bridal shower cakes from a Wilton 2004 Idea book. I changed the cake somewhat, but used the same basic idea and cake topper.
I do not like fondant icing, but I love the look, so I used buttercream and smoothed with a non patterned paper towel several times as the icing is crusting to achieve the same look. I used butter flavored Crisco in my normal buttercream recipe to get an ice antique white color for the trim. Then tinted the rest for the lovely ivory color.
The bottom tier is double layer 10″. Top tier is double layer 6″. Top tier is offset, and supported by plate and plastic rods inserted in base cake. Embellished with star tip. Pearls were piped on using tip #12. Sprinkled white cake sparkles on finished cake and cake plate for glistening look.
