Coolest Olympics Cake

I created this homemade Olympic cake for a party my mom was having to celebrate the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. I made the cake in a large rectangle cake pan using two cake mixes. Once the cake was ready I placed it on a large cake board and iced the cake with white butter cream icing.

To make the ski mountain I molded rice crispy treats. Once I was finished molding the mountain I placed it on top of the cake and iced it in the same icing as I iced the cake. For the three mascots I printed them off the official Olympic website and glued them together. To make the trees I used mini sugar cones and iced them with a star tip using green icing. I did this a few days before so the icing would harden. I then placed them on the cake in random places.

I made the Olympic rings using colored icing and a writing tip. Around the edges I made maple leaf chocolates using a maple leaf mold that I bought at the bulk food store and red and white candy melts. After I finished all of this I sifted icing sugar all over the homemade Olympics cake to create the look of a fresh snowfall.
