Coolest Pirate Ship Wreck Cake

My 4year old son is ‘Pirate’ crazy and wanted a Pirate ship cake. After many nights of laying awake thinking of how to impress my little ‘pirate’ this is what I came up with.

I layered 3 levels of chocolate sponge cake and cut to make a ship shape. I then dismantled and put in the freezer til the morning.

I constructed the cake on a painting canvas covered with blue contact, re-constructed the hull and covered it with chocolate butter icing. I used the powdered chocolate icing sugar, butter and boiling water (thick paste) an made the ‘wood’ impressions with a fork.

To decorate I used choc bullets (cannons)

choc finger biscuits (decking)

Malteasers (cannon balls)

Curly Wirlys (ropes)

Kit Kat (plank)

I bought some dowel and calico to make the sails and tied together using kitchen string. The little plastic figurines came from his pirate playset (from $2 shop). Around the base of the ship I sprinkled blue 100’s & 1000’s (water).

A big tip would be to put some dowel supports through the ship if you are going to transport (yep, a slight ‘ship wreck’ by the time we made it to the party) but a very happy ‘pirate’ for another year!
