This Super Mario Bros Cake is the birthday cake we made for our Super Mario besotted son Rory for his 6th Birthday, he loved it so much he didn’t want anyone to eat it!.
It was a lot of work but actually not as difficult as it appears at first glance. The idea was to recreate elements of a level in the Super Mario Bros Wii Game, so we baked Victoria Sponge Cakes 1 X 8″ circular, 1 * 8″ Square, we also got 4 anonised 3″ cylinders that we used to make the three pipes. Everything in the picture is edible except for the Mario and Luigi figures – most of the characters are made with coloured marzipan.
The Goombas were a huge hit – these are simply marshmallows dipped in Green & Blacks cooking chocolate (excellent quality!) and then we painted their faces using white and dark ‘writing fudge’ – these were as popular with the parents at the party as well as the kids.
