Homemade Ultrasound Cake

Homemade Ultrasound Cake

I recently made this Ultrasound Cake for my neighbor's (who also is a relative) company picnic.

He is president of an ultrasound company and I wanted to make something fun and unique for him and his wife because they are such great people.

I just started baking these cakes as a hobby. The screen is a flat of rice krispies covered in black fondant and an edible ultrasound picture. The main part of the ultrasound is cake, covered in fondant with the buttons and roller ball to imitate the top of the ultrasound machine, and the right side is all rice krispies and fondant.

I made rice loaves and then layered and carved them into the holding stations for the hand pieces. All the hand pieces are made out of rice krispies and layered in fondant. I constructed the frame with a board and an L bracket and extension to hold up the screen.

Coolest Sweet Pea Cake 4

Two Peas in a Pod Cake

Two Peas in a Pod Cake

I made this cake for my niece's baby shower. Since she was having twins, the theme was 2 peas in a pod. For the base of the cake I baked 2 9x13 chocolate cakes and placed them side by side and iced with them with buttercream icing.

I then placed a double layer 9" round yellow cake on top which was also iced with buttercream icing. I used fondant to shape pea pods and peas. For the babies, I used flesh color fondant and drew the facial features on the peas with edible marker. To make it look like the peas were growing on a vine, I rolled out the fondant with my hands into long narrow strings, positioned them on the cake and added icing leaves.

Working with the fondant was a little time consuming, but it was worth the effort.

Homemade SweetPea Cake

Homemade SweetPea Cake

I made this Homemade SweetPea Cake for my girlfriend' baby shower. Had never worked with fondant before but it was something I wanted to try. I bought some Wilton premade fondant. Very easy to work with but not very flavorful. I tinted the fondant pink and flavored it with red licorice flavor (all I had on hand) for the tiers of the cake.

The leaves and vines are also made of fondant, colored green and flavored with green apple. I made all the leaves (using a leaf punch) and the baby in the pod the day before to give time to set. I cut out the letters on the cake from fondant using a pizza cutter. The flowers and butterflies were store bought. Such a fun, pretty cake!

HOmemade Stork Baby Shower Cake

HOmemade Stork Baby Shower Cake

Ahead of time, I used fondant to make the beak, legs, shoes, tail, wing, neck, hat and baby of this Stork Baby Shower Cake. I prepared a box of vanilla cake mix.

For the body, I used a Wilton Football pan, and for the head I used the Mini Bake-n-Fill pans. I iced in butter cream and covered in fondant.

I put all the pieces into place on a 10x14 cake board that I had covered.

This Homemade Sweet Pea Cake was made for a friend of mine who didn't know if she was having a boy or girl so I went neutral.
